The Opel Ampera

About the Opel Ampera : First there was the Chevrolet Volt. And then there was the Opel Ampera. On closer inspection you will see that these cars are one in the same, the former built for the North American market, the latter for the European market.

Model Distinctions

Despite the similarities between models, there are some distinct differences too. The Ampera’s fascia, for instance is much more radical, even refined. Moreover, the Opel offers a slightly higher content level, although the Chevrolet is no strip model itself.

The Ampera is an extended range plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. It is designed to run the first 35 miles on electric power only before a small, gas motor takes over. This combination gives the Opel Ampera a range of about 380 miles or four times that of the pure electric Nissan LEAF.

The Ampera, sold as a Vauxhall model in some markets, sits on a 105.7-inch wheelbase and is 177.7 inches long by 70.3 inches wide by 56.6 inches tall. This five-door hatchback seats four and offers 10.6 cubic feet of storage capacity.

Voltec Vehicles

Voltec vehicles, comprising Volt and Ampera models alike, use a proprietary electric vehicle propulsion system that limits gas usage and provides robust performance. This vehicle emits no carbon dioxide emissions when operating in electric-only range and can be fully recharged in about four hours.

The Ampera offers a number leading-edge exterior features besides body color adornments, daytime running lamps and a high LED center stop lamp. This vehicle comes equipped with heated power adjustable side mirrors, integrated turn signal indicators. Lavish 17-inch aluminum wheels sets with black, sport radial tires and an assortment of visually stimulating exterior colors.

Cabin Amenities

Inside, the Opel has a generous amount of storage space with compartments and cubbies at the ready. This vehicle features split rear-folding seats, ambient lighting and a pair of high resolution screens on the center stack. Bluetooth connectivity, a USB interface ports, automatic climate control, keyless access and a stop/start ignition are standard.

Safety features are many and include a driver and front passenger airbags, front set side impact airbags, full length size curtain airbags and front knee airbags. This model also has an anti-lock brake system, stability control, electric part assist and traction control.

Special Features

There are some extras that you can get with your Opel Ampera including a leather-covered steering wheels, leather seat faces, front and rear parking sensors and a rear view camera. A navigation system with a DVD player, a hard disk drive and a Bose sound system with six speakers and one woofer is also available.
