A Guide to Aftercare of Windshield Replacement : The windshield glass can be chipped if a flying rock hits it with just enough force. It is annoying to get chips fixed but it is necessary. Because otherwise, it will turn into a huge crack and before you know it the entire windshield will have to be replaced.

After your windshield is replaced, it is important to follow the aftercare procedures for long-term positive results and maximum safety.

One hour after the windshield is replaced, you will have to:

1. Wait an Hour before Driving.

An adhesive is used to hold the new windshield in place so that a strong and waterproof seal is created all around it. You should wait to drive the car at least an hour after installation that way you will give the seal enough time to properly set and dry. And just in case this slips your mind, your technician will surely remind you of this right after you get the windshield replaced.

A day or two after your window replacement process is done, you will have to:

2. Clear out the Vehicle Inside and Out.

After a day the seal is dry enough for you to be able to drive your car. However it is not completely dry yet. So you should prevent things from sticking to the seal. For this reason, make sure not to cover the exterior of the vehicle with any kind of cover. It is recommended to not use a sunshade and to make sure the dashboard is free of all clutter.

3. Crack a Window Open.

The windshield is not up to its full strength while it dries so it is best to avoid stresses during the first day or two. The increased air pressure causes an extra amount of stress around the windshield. To avoid leaks in the future roll down a window at least one inch especially on the first day after installation.

4. Leave the Retention tape on.

The retention tape is used to hold the windshield moldings in place. It protects the seal while it is still drying. So it is best not to remove the tape for one or two days after installation, even if it is a bother for your eyes

5. No Power Washers or Car Washes in the first two days.

The new windshield takes at least two days to dry and set completely. During this time you should avoid automatic and high-pressure car washes to protect the new molding.

Best way to protect the glass and get it cleaned at the same time is by hand wash.

6. Protect new Glass from unnecessary Stress.

While the new glass sets, be gentle with your car doors so do not slam them and try to stay off the roads with a lot of bumps and potholes.
